FOSSIL SAFARI
Dig your own Fossil Fish at Warfield Springs Quarries!
Discover life from the Eocene, 50 million years ago. Fossils are abundant and easy to discover. Tools and instruction provided.
Groups, families and school classes are invited to enjoy a fun and memorable experience finding your own fossil fish at Warfield Springs. The stripping of overburden is done by quarry operators.Your valuable time is spent prying loose large blocks of limestone and splitting them apart with hammers and chisels. Collectors keep all fossils except "rare" specimens, which are retained by the quarry. Usually 3-4 hours results in a nice group of some of the more common species for your collection.
Free camping is available for diggers. The site is famous for the natural springs over which many battles were fought - hence the name - Warfield Springs. Elevation 7200 feet. Open from Memorial Day until August 31.Privately owned and operated. Collectors, rock clubs, educational and museum groups welcome!
